A stainless steel dishwasher in a bright home kitchen

Frigidaire Gallery dishwasher error codes are mostly “i” codes for water problems, plus a few status messages like CL (door open), Hd (heating water) and PF (power failure). The code you are most likely to see is i20, which means the dishwasher did not drain completely, usually because of a clogged filter or a kinked drain hose. Frigidaire’s reset is simple: press Cancel, or cut power at the breaker or unplug the dishwasher for 3 minutes.

This guide explains the Frigidaire Gallery dishwasher error codes that Frigidaire publishes on its US support site, what each one means, and what to do first. Frigidaire dishwashers (made by Electrolux, Frigidaire’s parent company) also share some “i” codes with Electrolux dishwashers. Where Frigidaire’s US pages don’t define a code, we tell you so and show Electrolux’s definition, so you know exactly how solid each answer is.

Frigidaire Gallery dishwasher error codes list

The first part of this table comes straight from Frigidaire’s US error code guide. The last four rows (i10, i30, i50, i60) are not on Frigidaire’s US list, so their meanings come from Electrolux’s official support pages. Read the note below the table before you act on those.

Code meanings can differ between Frigidaire and Electrolux models. For example, Frigidaire says i40 means a clogged filter or sump, while Electrolux’s own list says i40 is a water level sensing problem. When in doubt, the owner’s manual for your exact model number wins.

Why are some codes missing from Frigidaire’s official list?

Frigidaire’s US error code guide only covers a short list of codes, while repair sites list many more. Those extra lists often disagree with each other, especially on i10, i30 and i40. We only include codes we could confirm on an official Frigidaire or Electrolux support page, and we left out codes such as iC0 and iF0 because we could not confirm a meaning that applies to Frigidaire Gallery models.

Which Frigidaire codes are not errors?

Several codes on a Frigidaire Gallery display are normal status messages. Don’t reset the dishwasher for these. They tell you what the machine is doing.

  • 01 to 24: Delay Start is on, and the cycle starts when the countdown hits 0. Press Cancel once to start the cycle now, a second time to cancel the cycle (which starts a drain), and a third time to stop the drain and shut the unit off.
  • 1 to 199: minutes left in the current cycle.
  • LOC: the door is locked.
  • PR ES ST AR T: the display is scrolling “Press Start.” Frigidaire says this is not an error code. Close the door within 5 seconds after pressing Start.
  • Hd or HO: the dishwasher is heating water before it washes. Frigidaire says the delay is about 1 to 2 minutes for each degree the water needs to rise, so colder incoming water means a longer wait.

To shorten Hd delays, run the kitchen faucet until the water is hot before you start a cycle. That way the dishwasher fills with hot water instead of heating cold water itself.

Door codes (CL, Cd, LOC)

CL or Cd means the door is open or has not latched. Close the door firmly until you feel it latch, and the code clears on its own.

If the door won’t latch, check for:

  • A rack sticking out that hits the door before it can close.
  • A tall pan or utensil poking through the rack.
  • Food or debris on the latch at the top of the door.

If the door still won’t close, Frigidaire says to contact service for a repair. A broken latch or door switch is not a part to bend back into shape.

Drain codes (i20, i40)

i20 means the dishwasher did not drain completely, and i40 means the filter or sump is clogged. These are the Frigidaire codes you are most likely to fix yourself, often in under 30 minutes.

i20: did not drain completely

Frigidaire’s i20 checklist:

  • Disposer knockout plug: if the dishwasher drains into a garbage disposer, make sure the knockout plug inside the disposer inlet was removed. This matters most on new installs.
  • Drain hose: make sure it isn’t blocked, pinched or crushed behind the dishwasher.
  • Drain hose height: the hose should loop up at least 32 inches above the floor.
  • Filters and sump: clear food soil from the glass trap and filter at the bottom of the tub.

Then reset by pressing Cancel, or by turning off the breaker or unplugging the dishwasher for 3 minutes. Our Frigidaire i20 drain guide walks through each check step by step.

i40: clogged filter or sump

Food soil has built up in the sump and is keeping water from draining well. Remove and clean the glass trap and filter, then run the dishwasher again. If i40 keeps coming back, Frigidaire says to contact its support team.

Most likely cause for this group: a dirty filter or glass trap. Time needed: 15 to 30 minutes. DIY difficulty: easy.

Water supply and leak codes (i10, i30)

These two codes are not on Frigidaire’s US code list, but Electrolux defines them on its own dishwashers. Because the two brands share engineering, use the meanings below as a strong starting point and confirm with your owner’s manual.

i10: water supply problem

Electrolux says i10 means the dishwasher is not receiving enough water or cannot detect the incoming water supply. Check that:

  • The shutoff valve under the sink is fully open.
  • The supply hose is not kinked behind the dishwasher.
  • Your home water pressure is normal at the kitchen faucet.

i30: water leak detected

Electrolux says i30 means the anti-flood system found water where it shouldn’t be, usually water collecting in the base of the dishwasher. Its official steps:

  1. Turn off the water tap to the dishwasher.
  2. Check that the dishwasher is installed correctly and level.
  3. Load the racks so large items, like baking trays, don’t block the spray arms.
  4. Clean the filters, spray arms and sump.
  5. Check that the door gasket is clean and not damaged.
  6. Disconnect power and leave it off overnight with the water off, so the base can dry.
  7. Restore power and water and run a cycle.

Too much detergent or the wrong soap can also cause foam that spills into the base. If i30 comes back, turn off the water and arrange a repair. Our Frigidaire i30 leak guide covers the full process.

Most likely cause: a closed or kinked supply (i10), or a leak or foam spill into the base (i30). DIY difficulty: easy to moderate.

Motor and heating codes (i50, i60)

These codes point to parts inside the machine, so they usually need a technician. Like i10 and i30, they are defined on Electrolux’s support site rather than Frigidaire’s US list.

  • i50: Electrolux says this is a wash motor or circulation system problem. Something is affecting water circulation during the wash.
  • i60: Electrolux says this is a heating problem. The water isn’t heating correctly or can’t reach the required temperature.

Electrolux’s general advice is to disconnect power for 30 to 60 seconds and see if the code returns. If it keeps coming back, or the dishwasher can’t finish any cycle, book a repair.

For i60, you can rule out one easy cause first. Run the kitchen faucet until the water is hot before starting a cycle, so the heater isn’t trying to warm cold water.

What do flashing lights mean on a Frigidaire dishwasher?

On Frigidaire models without a full display, certain lights flash together to signal a problem. Frigidaire lists three patterns:

Lights flashingWhat it meansWhat to do
Hi-Temp Wash and Heat DryPower failurePress Start/Cancel to stop the flashing
Cycles, Option and Washing (after pressing Start/Cancel)Door not closedClose the door; the cycle should start
Status lights flash and the dishwasher drainsShorted keypadTurn off power for about 5 minutes; schedule service if it returns

A shorted keypad usually means the touch panel needs replacing. Frigidaire’s advice is to try the 5-minute power reset once, then schedule service if the lights start flashing again.

How can you confirm what a code means on your exact model?

Find your model number, then open the owner’s manual for that model. Frigidaire Gallery is a product line, not a single dishwasher, and different control boards can show different code sets. The manual’s troubleshooting section is the final word for your machine.

Here’s how to get there quickly:

  • Find the label. On most dishwashers, the model and serial number label is visible with the door open, around the edge of the tub or the door.
  • Look up the manual. Enter the model number on Frigidaire’s owner support site to download the use and care guide.
  • Match the display. If your manual shows a code that isn’t in this guide, trust the manual over any online list, including this one.

This matters most for codes outside Frigidaire’s US list. A repair site might call i40 a drain problem, while Electrolux calls it a water level sensing problem and Frigidaire calls it a clogged filter or sump. Your manual tells you which one your dishwasher means.

How can you prevent Frigidaire dishwasher error codes?

Most repeat Frigidaire codes come from a dirty filter, a poor drain setup or the wrong soap. A few habits go a long way.

  • Clean the glass trap and filter regularly. Food soil building up in the sump is the cause Frigidaire gives for i40, and it is one of the checks for i20.
  • Scrape plates before loading. Less food in the tub means less soil in the sump.
  • Keep the drain hose looped high. Frigidaire’s i20 checklist says the drain hose should be at least 32 inches above the floor.
  • Run the disposer before you start a cycle so the dishwasher can drain into a clear line.
  • Use only automatic dishwasher detergent, and the right amount. Foam can spill into the base and set off a leak code like i30.
  • Run the hot tap first to shorten Hd heat delays and help the dishwasher reach its target temperature.

How do you reset a Frigidaire Gallery dishwasher?

Frigidaire’s official reset is to press Cancel, or turn off power at the breaker or unplug the dishwasher for 3 minutes. For a shorted keypad, Frigidaire suggests leaving the power off for about 5 minutes.

Total time: 10 minutes

Write down the code

Photograph the display or note which lights are flashing before you reset anything.

Fix the likely cause

Clean the glass trap and filter for i20 or i40, check the drain hose and disposer for i20, and close the door firmly for CL or Cd.

Press Cancel

Press Cancel (or Start/Cancel on some models) to clear the code. For PF, press Start/Cancel and then start a new cycle.

Cut power for 3 minutes

If Cancel doesn’t clear it, turn off the dishwasher’s breaker or unplug it. Wait 3 minutes, or about 5 minutes for a flashing keypad fault.

Restore power and run a cycle

Turn power back on, close the door, choose a cycle and press Start. Watch for the code to return.

Call for service if it comes back

A code that returns right after a reset usually means a part has failed. Have the code and your model number ready.

⚠️ Safety first

  • Disconnect power at the breaker before removing panels. Most built-in Frigidaire dishwashers are hard-wired.
  • For i30 or any leak, turn off the water supply under the sink before you inspect the dishwasher.
  • Wipe up water on the floor before you work near the dishwasher to avoid shock and slips.
  • Let the dishwasher cool after a cycle before reaching into the tub, since the heating element can stay hot.
  • Use only automatic dishwasher detergent. Hand dish soap can foam over and trigger a leak code.

When should you call a pro?

Call a technician when a code returns after a reset, or when the code points to a part inside the dishwasher. Frigidaire’s own advice for i40 and a shorted keypad is to contact support if the problem continues.

  • i20 or i40 keeps returning after you clean the filter and check the drain hose.
  • i30 returns after the base has dried overnight.
  • i50 or i60 appears, or returns after a power reset.
  • The status lights flash and the dishwasher drains (shorted keypad), and it comes back after a 5-minute reset.
  • The door won’t latch even with nothing in the way.
  • You see water on the floor or smell burning.
  • Your dishwasher is under warranty. Check the terms before opening any panels.

Frequently asked questions

How do I reset my Frigidaire Gallery dishwasher?

Press Cancel to clear the code. If that doesn’t work, turn off the breaker or unplug the dishwasher for 3 minutes, then turn it back on. Frigidaire suggests about 5 minutes for a keypad fault.

What does i20 mean on a Frigidaire dishwasher?

i20 means the dishwasher did not drain completely. Check that the disposer knockout plug is removed, the drain hose isn’t pinched, the hose loops at least 32 inches above the floor, and the filter is clean.

What does i30 mean on a Frigidaire dishwasher?

i30 isn’t on Frigidaire’s US code list, but Electrolux, Frigidaire’s parent company, defines it as a water leak detected in the base. Turn off the water, check for leaks and foam, and let the base dry overnight before trying again.

Why does my Frigidaire dishwasher say CL?

CL or Cd means the door is open or not latched. Close it firmly until it latches and the code clears. If it won’t latch, contact service.

What does Hd mean on a Frigidaire Gallery dishwasher?

Hd or HO means the dishwasher is heating water before it washes. It isn’t an error. Colder incoming water means a longer wait, so run the kitchen faucet hot before you start.

Why is my Frigidaire dishwasher showing PF?

PF means the dishwasher lost power during a cycle. Press Start/Cancel to clear it, then start a new cycle.
